Drivers of local and express services are eligible to compete if they have been so employed since 1st September of the year preceding the competition, and during the same period have not been involved in any accident in which any element of their judgement contributed to the cause, have not had an endorsement entered on their ordinary driving licence and have not been absent from PCV driving duty for any period exceeding 14 weeks continuous duration. (These requirements are intended to be generally consistent with the pass standards for a ROSCO award).
 
Rules for the Final
 
The following general penalties will be applicable to all tests in the National Final:
  1. Touching, running on to or over any kerb or simulated kerb - 50 points
  2. Touching any hazard - 10 to 50 points
  3. Incorrect stopping at bus stops and poor positioning at kerb up to - 40 points
  4. Failure to maintain forward or reverse movement (for each shunt) - 20 points
  5. Failure to maintain schedule - 50 points
  6. Exceeding maximum speed limit - 10 to 140 points
  7. Failure to observe minimum speed limit - 5 to 85 points
  8. Failure to comply with company regulations - various points
  9. Dangerous driving - disqualification
  10. Highway Code and Mechanical tests - each incorrect answer 10 points
  11. Unsigned driving licence - 100 points

Special Notes
 
Assistance from any person which could influence the performance of a competitor will lead to automatic disqualification from the competition. For safety reasons spectators must not enter any part of the test area. Parents are requested to keep their children under control in the vicinity of the test area.
