All the teams together with their colleagues, friends and families gather in the Hilton Hotel on Sunday afternoon for the presentation ceremony. Past presenters include Mike Cooper, Managing Director - Arriva UK Bus, Nicola Shaw, Director, First Group, Peter Hendy, Commissioner for Transport for London, Giles Fearnley of CPT and Beverley Bell, Traffic Commissinor for the North West.
The UK Bus Driver of the Year receives prizes to the value of £1500. The runner-up receives awards worth £1000. Third, fourth and fifth places receive £750, £500 and £250 respectively.
There are also prizes for the best theory test result, the best newcomer, the best driver from an English, a Scottish and a Welsh depot respectively, for the driver who has competed in the most consecutive National Finals and the oldest competitor.
In addition, the major bus groups award prizes, normally £500, for the best-placed driver from one of their companies and runner up.
The winners also receive cups and trophies sponsored by leading suppliers to the bus industry.
Every finalist receives a Certificate of Attendance, subsistence money and gifts presented each year by sponsors and the BDoY Board.
The presentation is usually over by 1630, after which the teams disperse to return home, some replete with trophies, with others determined to return the following year.
All competitors, whether prize-winners or not, should take pride in being one of the top drivers
in the UK.
